Description
$20 large-sized red-seal Federal Reserve Note, series of 1914 from the New York district. PMG has graded this note Choice Fine 15. Friedberg # is 953b; serial # is B1357584A. Signatures - as with all 1914 red seals - are Burke and McAdoo. 1914 red seal FRNs are popular largely because of their rarity. There are at least two reasons for the popularity of these notes: 1) Red seal $20 FRNs are 12 times rarer than their blue-seal $20 counterparts. 2) A total of only 456 $20 red seals are known across all 12 federal-reserve districts. Only 83 examples of this particular Friedberg number are known in all grades based on the Gengerke census as of June 2008. In the larger coin world, this would be considered rare. Here at DBR Currency, we believe that the valuation gap which exists between the coin and currency hobbies will drive collectible-currency values higher over time.
